Party Planning

To Drink or Not To Drink?

Now, that is a good question. When at a party, you’ll want to let your hair down and have a drink or two. And, so long as you don’t get drunk, the answer to the question is, “Drink and be merry!” But, just so you don’t cross that fine line to becoming drunk (and more importantly, a nuisance), here are a few pointers you might want to keep in mind, whether you’re the guest or the host.

To Drink or Not To Drink?
Go slow & steady

Get those drinks out and about, but at a steady pace. One drink an hour is usually the rule of thumb, to keep the proceedings sane but fun!

Burp!

Meet the liquids with some substantial solids. Organize more food at the party than drinks. With more food in their stomach your guests will be able to hold their drinks much better.

Mix it up

No, we don’t mean the different types of alcohol. This is more about providing a mix of alcohols and non-alcoholic beverages. You never know who’s on medication or has just vowed off drinks recently!

Be an optimist

When you see a glass half-empty, you need to remember it’s really half-full! It’s better to wait until it’s fully empty before you fill it again, just so your guests can keep track of how much they are drinking.

Closing time

Close the bar about an hour before the party teeters to a close. This will not only give your guests enough time to sober up before the drive home, but also your bartender the chance to put his feet up and enjoy the party too.

The golden rule

Don’t allow guests who are intoxicated drive home. You can probably call them a cab, pile them on with other sober souls or simply let them sleep over at your place.

For the party guests
The sky’s not the limit

When it comes to drinking, you need to make sure your feet are on the ground! Most people follow the rule of one drink per hour, but you need to know your own levels of tolerance.

Grab those snacks

You never pass up on good food! Eat enough, so you don’t start snoring on the couch too soon and miss all the fun.

Take it slow

Make good things last! Enjoy every drink, smelling and tasting the various flavors. It not only makes you look sophisticated but also gives you lesser time to refill your glass.

Be a pro

‘No’ means ‘No’

There may be cases where a ‘no’ is actually ‘yes’, but when it comes to drinking, whether it’s you who’s approaching your limit or a friend who does not want to drink, don’t try to force it.

The golden rule again

This can’t be repeated enough. Never drink and drive. If you’ve had one too many, you can ask to be dropped home or call a cab.
